This is a hardy drought tolerant plant that can reproduce by seed and vegetatively. It is considered poisonous to humans and livestock. While this plant is attractive to pollinators, results from a honey study showed Blue Heliotrope is a source of pyrrolizidine alkaloid (the poisonous compound that causes problems for humans and livestock) .
